Come & learn about the important wetland habitat at Le Grande Pré Nature Reserve in the Vale – as well as the insects and birds that depend on it.
INSECTS: Many insects can be seen this spring including Peacock, Red Admiral, Speckled Wood & Green-veined white butterflies, solitary bees, bumblebees, hoverflies & shield bugs. We will also be looking at the moths caught in the moth trap set on Sunday night.
BIRDS: Le Grande Pré provides an important habitat for breeding Reed Warblers, Cetti’s Warblers, Moorhen, Coot & Water Rail.
Reed Buntings and Marsh Harriers have been sporadic breeders. During spring the reed bed supports large numbers of migrating Reed & Sedge Warblers, & Swallows & Sand Martins use the area as a roost.
